Felted Snowman

Felted Snowman

Let’s face it: Snowmen are simply happy symbols of wintertime. These knitted and felted snowmen are quick to knit up and felt. The accessories alone can make one squeal with delight over the absolute cuteness!

If you need quick gifts for those folks who have everything, the gift of a sweet felted snowman is sure to win you accolades for your crafting prowess, and you will chalk this pattern up as the Best-Simple-Gift-Ever prize!

Go ahead. Have a little fun with your holiday gifts!

One skein will make a large and a small Woolly Snowman.

Pattern: “Woolly Snowman” by Marie Mayhew (also consider the Woolly Snowman hat collection and the Woolly Snowman Accessories collection)

Yarn: Cascade 220 Highland wool, Ecru #8010 (NOTE: do not use a bright white yarn—it has likely been bleached and will not felt!)

Yardage: 220 yards for the snowman. The felted top hat uses about 20 yards of black 100% wool.

Needles: One set of US size 10.5 DPNs

Notions: Woolly Snowman Kits (includes polymer clay “carrot” nose, beads for arms and face, wire and glue). Also consider bringing some ½” buttons for the belly.

Gauge: Very loose! 14 sts and 17 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch NOTE: Because this is not a fitted garment, gauge is not critical. If you plan to  make several snowmen, just be sure to have adequate quantities of unbleached, ecru yarn!
