Knit for Food Knit-a-thon is a 12 hour knitting marathon to raise funds and awareness for food insecurity. 100% of funds raised will be equally divided between Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels.
The Tangled Ball will be hosting a knit-in from 11 to 7pm, come and knit with us. There will be a variety of events throughout the day, including the debut of our mystery bags and our Sample Sale.
10% of sample and mystery bag sales will be donated to Knit for Food.
There are two ways to support the Knit-a-thon: You can gather sponsors to support your participation in knitting/crafting for 12 hours OR you can donate yourself!
To donate on the Tangled Ball Team, DONATE.
To sign up to knit, register for this event here on our website. You can stay for a few minutes or a few hours, everything helps! Ask your friends, family and colleagues to donate to our team to sponsor you - either based on the amount of time you participate or just a flat donation.
More about Knit for Food:
Knit for Food was founded by knitwear designer Laura Nelkin and was inspired by her daughter's AmeriCorps position at their local food bank during the pandemic summer of 2020. Knit for Food is run by a small but mighty team of volunteers who put their all into ensuring the success of this fundraiser year after year!
In 2021 they raised $265,810!
In 2022, $271,761!!
In 2023, raised $340,000!!!
In 2024, raised $379,010!!!
That means knitters have raised over $1,250,000 with our knitting needles!! Can you even believe that?!
To learn more about these organizations:
Feeding America- The Feeding America network is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, working to connect people with food and end hunger. Donors, staff, and volunteers all play an important role in our efforts to end hunger in the United States.
World Central Kitchen- WCK uses the power of food to heal communities and strengthen economies through times of crisis and beyond.
No Kid Hungry- No child should go hungry in a nation as wealthy as ours. But millions of kids are living with hunger right now. With No Kid Hungry, you can help change that for good.
Meals on Wheels- Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we get older, even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence. Add to that an increase in geographic mobility of our families, and the result is millions of seniors left behind, hungry and alone. Meals On Wheels is here to help!
